‘SOFT AND CHEAP: Resident criticises footpath replacement in Garston

Published on: 6th February 2023   |   By: Megan Milstead   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Garston resident has a criticised a footpath that was recently laid in Meriden Park.

Graham Reece explained that the path looks cheap compared to the previous version.

He said: “[The council] tells me that it will harden in time. I don’t see why they took up a good path that had been down for 40-odd years to be replaced with a soft, cheap option.”

Councillor Tim Williams, Watford Borough Council’s portfolio holder for neighbourhood services, said: “We understand that a resident has highlighted his concerns, but at that time the path was not fully completed. The new pathway is made from self-binding gravel, which is easy to maintain, looks good in natural settings, and is sustainable.

“Due to the inclement weather, the new pathway is due to be fully completed by Friday, February 3, and then it will be re-rolled to ensure that the gravel is fully compacted. The Park Project Team has recently attended a coffee morning of the Meriden Residents’

Association and attendees were pleased with the progress at the park and were happy with the more natural-looking path being laid.”
