SLOW DOWN: Public consultation held on proposals for new 20mph zones in Garston

Published on: 10th April 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Residents have had their say after Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) proposed introducing 20mph zones on five Garston streets.

Coates Way, Coates Dell, Kytes Drive, Bridge Close and Pilgrims Close currently have 30mph speed limits. The informal consultation on whether to change this to 20mph closed on Friday, March 14.

In the consultation letter, HCC wrote: “The aim of the proposal is to make it easier and safer for people walking and cycling and to improve safety for all road users.”

Speaking to GARSTONnews, one resident said: “I am in favour of reducing the speed limit. There is a primary school with young children and families – a lower speed limit would help keep people safer.”

A spokesperson for HCC said: “We are currently analysing the responses, and once that is done, we will publish the results and confirm the next steps.”
