SIX WEEKS’ IMPRISONMENT: Man sentenced for shoplifting offences in Watford

Published on: 28th May 2024   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

A man has been jailed for six weeks in connection with shoplifting offences in Watford.

Shahjahan Miah, 37, of no fixed abode, had been charged with three separate thefts from a shop this month.

All three incidents occurred at B&M on the High Street between May 18 and May 22. The suspect entered the shop, selected several cleaning products and then left the store without making any attempts to pay.

Miah was also charged with four counts of breaching a Community Protection Notice. Three of the breaches occurred during the three thefts from B&M and the fourth was in relation to him being sighted by officers in the town centre, breaching his conditions.

In addition to being sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment, Miah has been ordered to pay compensation to the business.

Sergeant Brad Cross, from the Watford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We understand the impact theft has on businesses and we work closely with all shops in the town centre along with the Watford BID to ensure security staff and other members of staff know what to do if they suspect someone is stealing from the shop.

“This type of behaviour has no place in Watford, and we will continue to crack down on these types of crimes.”
