A community support team who work to keep the streets of St Albans safe are urging volunteers to join them so they can continue their vital service.
The Street Support Team was set up in 2019 aim to offer support to the community on Friday and Saturday nights, both in instances of medical support and a friendly chat.
However, the team now need support more than ever as they prepare to restart patrols alongside the easing of restrictions.
Shaun Martin, founder, said they are struggling to find volunteers for the patrols which run from 10.30pm to 3am.
He said: “The hardest bit we’ve face is trying to find volunteers. It’s exhausting, eventually if we do get enough volunteers we can split the patrol and volunteers can do half a night.
“We will be starting patrols when pubs fully open on May 17, it’s hard coming out of lockdown and trying to predict what’s going to happen.
“Many people haven’t been out for a while but it may also be really quiet if people are being cautious.”
The team are also looking for donations of support to help them purchase essential equipment to help on patrols.
