‘SHOCKED AND SHAKEN’: Two Watford residents left trapped after tree falls on vehicle

A Watford resident was driving through town last month when a 30-foot tree fell on his vehicle, leaving him trapped inside.

Scott Clarke, 43, was driving with a friend, Will Martin, on Tuesday, November 11, when the incident occurred.

Speaking to Watford News, Scott said: We were a bit shocked, shaken and had a few little cuts from where the window screen came in.

We had just pulled off from outside my house. As we passed the turning on the left, which goes from 28-2 Newhouse Crescent, that’s when we first noticed little branches coming down onto the window and then bang, the van came to an abrupt halt.

“We were both shocked and then noticed we were stuck inside the van. We had to wait for the fire brigade to cut us out and make the tree safe.”

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue reportedly received a call just before 7pm on Tuesday, November 11, to reports that a large tree had fallen onto a vehicle on Newhouse Crescent in Watford, with two people trapped inside.

They said: “Three fire engines from Watford, Garston and St Albans stations and a rescue support unit were sent to the scene. Crews used cutting equipment to free the occupants of the car, and thankfully, no one was injured.”

A Watford Community Housing spokesperson said: “We recognise the impact that this has had on residents – the area has now been cleared and we have worked directly with those affected to provide support. The tree was assessed recently and was due to be felled this month, along with two other nearby trees, as part of our ongoing programme of tree management. We have taken swift action to remove both of these trees as quickly as possible.”
