‘SHELTERED SPACE’: Abbots Langley school’s new classroom promotes benefits of outdoor learning

Published on: 14th May 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Bedmond Academy has opened a new outdoor classroom to allow “pupils to engage with nature through learning”.

Pupils at the Abbots Langley primary school have watched on in fascination as the canopy classroom has been constructed.

The unique classroom, built using sustainable materials, has been made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Bedmond Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

It was then created by School Outdoor Learning and has already been put to good use by teachers, with science observations, nature-inspired art classes, and storytelling sessions.

Headteacher Lola Grant said: “This sheltered space allows our pupils to learn outdoors in all weather conditions, connecting with nature while continuing their education.

“The canopy classroom bridges traditional teaching with our forest school program, giving children the benefits of outdoor learning with necessary protection from the elements.

“This project would not have been possible without our PTA, who fundraised and contributed significantly to make this vision a reality.”
