A retired Watford nurse is looking to reunite with her classmates, 50 years after their training.
Susan Barrell née Danzig was one of tens of nurses to train at West Herts School, located at Watford Peace Memorial Hospital, back in 1975. The group eventually split off into different wards, with Susan going on to develop a fantastic career in nursing both abroad and in the UK.
Half a century on, Susan reached out to Justin Dealey from BBC Three Counties Radio, who spoke with the retired nurse on air in the hopes of reaching her classmates for a 50-year reunion next year.
Three nurses have now been in contact with Susan: Chris who now lives in Aylesbury, Carol who lives in Wales and whose Watford-based stepmother heard the radio interview, and Jan who lives in Cornwall.
Speaking to WATFORDnews, Susan said: “As you get older, you do a lot of reflective practice, and I think it would be lovely to mark 50 years since we met. We’ve all been through life’s challenges, and part of it is remembering the good times in life.
“It’s nice to share those memories and celebrate something that is good.”
Susan is on the search for Julia, who often mentioned her mother who was Mayor of Dacorum during the 1970s and lived in either Hemel Hempstead or Berkhamsted; Denise who became a driving instructor; and Vanda who lived at the RAF headquarters in Northwood.
