SET ALIGHT: Police appeal for information following three arson attacks in Garston

Published on: 4th April 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

Officers investigating a series of arson attacks involving vehicles in Garston are appealing for information, witnesses and footage.

The first incident happened at 12.15am on Saturday, February 24, when a black Mercedes was set alight on Sheepcot Lane. The second occurred just before 11.40pm on the same day, when a silver Ford Transit van was set alight on York Way. The third incident took place at 1.30am on Monday, February 26, when a black Mercedes was set alight on Amwell Close.

Sergeant Dave Elgy, who leads the Watford Outer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Thankfully, no one was injured in any of the three incidents, but I’d like to reassure residents that we are doing all we can to trace those responsible.

“We have already conducted house-to-house enquiries to offer vehicle security advice and a visible police presence in the area, as we know news of these crimes will be of concern to the community.

“Due to the circumstances, we suspect that these incidents have been committed by the same individuals. Our colleagues in the Local Crime Unit are already exploring several lines of enquiry, but we are keen to hear from anyone who may have additional information that could assist us.

“Did you witness suspicious activity in either of the three locations, or do you have a doorbell camera that may have captured something of note?

“If you think you can help, please contact the area’s Neighbourhood Policing Team officer, PC Reeve, via email at chris.reeve@herts.police.uk”
