Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious road traffic collision on the A405 North Orbital Road near St Albans.

This comes after a 43-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving. He has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

The incident occurred near Chiswell Green at around 4.05pm yesterday (Monday, June 26), when it is reported that a grey Citroën van and a pedestrian were in collision.

Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from the ambulance service and air ambulance. Road closures were put in place between the A405 North Orbital Road roundabout and the B4630 Watford Road roundabout/Tippendell Lane.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are believed to be life-changing.

PC Alison Elderfield, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we are urging anyone with information to please get in touch.

“Were you in the area at the time and saw what happened? Additionally, if you have a dashcam fitted, please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage that may help our investigation.”
