The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command has charged 20 additional people as part of an ongoing investigation into individuals suspected of showing support for the proscribed group Palestine Action.
The new charges bring the total number of people charged in London with offences related to showing support for the group to 134.
All 20 individuals were arrested in the capital on Saturday, August 9.
The defendants are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 24.
This comes after nearly 500 people were arrested in central London during protests in support of Palestine Action.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “For those people now charged, if convicted, they are facing potentially serious consequences that could impact on their careers and their ability to travel overseas.
“I would urge anyone considering committing a similar offence by coming out and showing support to Palestine Action to reconsider; otherwise, you will very likely be arrested, investigated, and, as these latest charges show, we are efficiently working with the Crown Prosecution Service to bring about prosecutions.”
Under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act, those found guilty of showing support for a proscribed organisation could face six months’ imprisonment.
