SENTENCED: Thieves that stole vehicle in Abbots Langley appear in court

A man is set to be deported after co-ordinating and perpetrating a vehicle crime in Abbots Langley.

On Thursday, January 19, St Albans Crown Court heard that in the summer of last year, four Romanians travelled from Luton to steal a BMW from Abbots Langley.

The victim, who had advertised the black Series 6 for sale on Auto Trader, was contacted by a man called Ali, a believed pseudonym of 41-year-old Teodore Sava, who was fronting the theft.

Sava and another defendant went to Abbots Road, Abbots Langley at around half past two in the afternoon on July 25 to examine and test drive the car. A price was agreed and “Ali” said he had transferred £1,000 to the owner using his mobile.

Sava and his accomplices were able to clone the key and drove off at high speed. No deposit had been transferred.

Hertfordshire Police found the BMW shortly afterwards in Summerhouse Way in Abbots Langley. CCTV from the street linked the thieves to a Jaguar X-type estate. It was stopped later that evening near junction 15 on M25.

Teodore Sava of Midland Road, Luton; Marco Anghel, 18, of Hartsfield Road, Luton, Paris Anghel, 26, and Roberto Anghel, 20, both of Eaton Green Road, Luton were arrested.

They appeared for sentence, having pleaded guilty to theft. A conspiracy charge was not proceeded with.

Defending, Dhaneswar Sharma said the Anghels had been in custody for five months before being bailed.

Sava had been given a 3 month suspended sentence for illegally entering the country via Northern Ireland in November 2021 and now faces deportation. He has a wife and two children in Romania and was isolated in prison, he said. The time he served on remand was the equivalent of a 362-day sentence, he said.

Judge Richard Foster told them: “This was a pre-planned and to some extent a sophisticated crime.”

He sentenced the Anghels to 9 months in jail. The time they served on remand meant they were not returned to prison.

Sava was sentenced to 12 months.

The judge told him: “You have an ugly record of acquisitive crime. You fronted the theft. You are to be deported.”
