A theatre school owner based in Radlett received four yes votes from the judges at ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) and reached the live semifinals.
Marc Kelly, the resident Pantomime Dame at the Radlett Centre and Principal of Razzamataz Radlett, and seven other Dames from throughout the UK performed a mash-up of It’s Raining Men and I Will Survive, putting their own distinctive spin on the song.
The auditions were held on the famous London Palladium stage. Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, and David Walliams, the four judges, unanimously praised the performance, with Simon remarking: “Just like the Spice Girls but better singers.”
Marc takes on the role of Dame Dotty, who has been appearing in pantomimes at the Radlett Centre for the last eight years. Marc reached out to other panto Dames throughout the pandemic c to keep in touch while theaters closed. The outcome was the birth of Dame Nation, a dame super-group that made it through the auditions on Britain’s Got Talent with four yes votes.
Marc said: “Razzamataz has given me a wonderful opportunity to inspire children and young people through my love of performing arts and I have seen time and time again how students gain confidence and self-belief simply by coming to our classes.
“Razzamataz is such a supportive community and I know that all our students and families will be cheering on Dame Dotty and Dame Nation, hopefully inspiring them to believe in themselves further and never give up on their own dreams.”
