SECOND THOUGHTS: Council agrees to reconsider controversial parking charges in Kings Langley

Published on: 27th May 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Councillor Sally Symington, Leader of Dacorum Borough Council (DBC), has agreed with Cabinet colleagues to review the parking policy on Kings Langley High Street after months of residents’ campaigning.

Business owners and residents have warned that new parking charges are “killing the High Street” since they came into effect on Monday, March 31.

Gagan Mohindra, MP for South West Hertfordshire, said: “We need a serious conversation about what works best for both residents and businesses.

“High streets are the centre of our communities, and we should be encouraging people to support local businesses, not rush them out.”

He has since asked DBC for a timeframe for when an impact assessment of the charges can be completed.

Speaking to Kings News, parish and borough councillor Alan Johnson said: “Instead of listening to local people, retailers or elected councillors, instead of considering permits for local workers, increasing the ‘free’ period to at least an hour and then charging thereafter, instead of making payment simple, it’s cost businesses income and driven vehicles onto residential streets, causing real difficulties for the free flow of traffic.”

On a Facebook post on Friday, April 25, cllr Symington announced the review, sharing: “I have visited the sites where issues have been highlighted to see first-hand the impact of the changes on our high streets, local businesses and neighbouring residential streets.”

DBC will be reviewing the policies in consultation with local businesses and residents.

DBC has been contacted for comment.
