School in Abbots fundraises for Fair Trade

Published on: 9th March 2018   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Uncategorized

A school in Abbots has raised £82.50 for the Fair Trade Foundation after it held a bake sale last month.

Tanners Wood School Eco Club held the Fair Trade Bake Sale to raise funds and awareness for fair trade farmers. The club has only been up and running since September and has already held several environmental campaigns involving the whole school.

Teacher Jenny Keith said the children decided that they would like to show their support for farmers in the UK and around the world by baking with only UK and fair trade ingredients.

She explained: “The Eco Club researched recipes, listed ingredients and quantities and finally spent an afternoon baking a range of goodies including gingerbread and brownies. All the products were baked with fair trade ingredients, very kindly donated by Nisha and her team at Sainsbury’s Dome Roundabout, Watford.

“The sale was hugely popular and all the items sold out in super quick time, thanks to the brilliant selling skills of the Eco Club. The money has been sent to The Fair Trade Foundation and will support projects to bring Fairtrade to more farmers and workers by helping strengthen their voices to negotiate a fairer deal, helping them improve their farms and by building demand for their produce.”

Qureshi, Headteacher , said, “Our Eco Warriors have showed great initiative with their bake sale, from planning, baking to selling their biscuits. They were very proud of their effort and the money raised”.
