CLOSE SHAVE: Cricket club survives relegation on final day

Published on: 18th September 2026   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Featured

Abbots Langley Cricket Club’s men’s side left it until the final day of the season to avoid relegation, as the women’s and junior teams had seasons to remember.

The men’s first XI battled hard to remain in Division One of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League in a last-gasp win over Ampthill Town. Abbots batted for 98 runs before the vice-captain took six wickets to dismiss Ampthill for 75.

Club Captain James Allan said: “It’s fair to say I was a bit concerned when we were bowled out for less than a hundred, but at tea, Parky told me he fancied himself to make something happen with the new ball.”

The women’s team closed out their season with a trophy following a victory in the Herts Women’s Cricket League Softball Division. They also reached the T20 Plate final.

The club also fielded teams for players aged nine to 15. The under-14 boys went unbeaten across 21 matches and won two trophies.
