SCAM STOP: Arrest finally made in connection with Northwood vehicle damage scams

Published on: 7th February 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A man has been arrested in connection with a scam which has been targeting drivers and residents across Northwood and Ruislip.

Over the past few months, local police safer neighbourhood teams (SNT) have received reports of a wing mirror scam.

The scam involves an object being thrown at a passing car, with the intention of causing the driver to believe that they had damaged the wing mirror of another vehicle. The other vehicle had in fact already been damaged.

The scammer will then demand payment of around £400 to pay for the repairs. Multiple people have reported falling victim to this scam and other similar scenarios, described as ‘crash-for-cash’ scams.

However, due to a consistent flood of reports from local victims over a sustained period of time, Ruislip Manor SNT have arrested a man in connection with the scams. His vehicle has also been seized by police.

A police spokesperson said: “This is a significant result by Ruislip Manor SNT which will hopefully reduce incidences of this crime across the borough.

“If you are, or have been, a victim of this type of crime but have not reported it, you can contact the police with details online.”
