GET SET: Runners lace up for annual half marathon and fun run in Berkhamsted

Berkhamsted residents are once again preparing to take on the town’s iconic half marathon and fun run, which will take place on Sunday, March 3.

Runners still have time to sign up to the 41st edition of Berkhamsted Rotary Club’s annual event.

The route begins at Berkhamsted Castle, passes over the Grand Union Canal, past the 13th century St Peter’s Church, uphill to Potten End, down to the villages of Frithsden and Nettleden, on to the 5,000 acres of Chiltern woodland at Ashridge Estate, and finally home.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: “More than 200 volunteers ensure the safe and efficient running of the event. Many will be working behind the scenes, not just on the day but in the months leading up to the day. Without them, the half marathon/fun run would not take place.

“These events raise a lot of money for local causes. Many participants – individuals and teams – are running to raise money for their own particular causes. Even if you are not planning to run, do come along and cheer the competitors on – it makes so much difference.”
