SAVE THE DATES: Festival of Culture to take Radlett high street by storm

Published on: 21st January 2020   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Aldenham Parish Council (APC) is very excited to announce The Festival of Culture in Radlett.

The new festival, which will be held from June 4-7, will showcase the huge range of cultural opportunities in the village and will be a chance for the community to come together to enjoy live popular and classical music, book readings, film screenings, theatre and comedy performances, art exhibitions, dance and children’s entertainment in as many venues as possible along Radlett’s high street and elsewhere.

2020 has been designated the Hertfordshire Year of Culture, which aims to showcase Hertfordshire as a county of creative and cultural opportunity, with a yearlong programme of events.

The Festival of Culture in Radlett is part of this initiative.

A schools’ competition is also being run in the lead up to the event comprising poetry, short story writing and art for all age groups from primary to secondary schools.

The Festival of Culture will be launched at the Radlett Centre on Thursday, June 4.

On Saturday June 6, throughout the day and well into the evening, the high street will be alive with events, performances, street entertainment, food stalls and much more.

The library will be the focus for children’s cultural activities, the Radlett Centre will host a day of children’s concerts, there will be book readings, an art trail, a comedy night in the Red Lion and many more events in the shops, cafés and restaurants.

On Sunday, June 7, Films in the Park will be held at Phillimore Recreation Ground.

Three films will be shown catering for all age groups and tastes. Alongside the films, there will be fun fair rides, food stalls and hopefully other cultural entertainment too.

This will be an opportunity for families to bring along their picnics and enjoy the whole day.

A Festival of Culture programme will allow people to choose which events they would like to attend.

APC is also working with local businesses with a view to them agreeing to offer discount vouchers in the programme which could be used in Radlett over that weekend.

The council is currently looking for any local cultural societies, bands or individuals who would like to be involved – please contact Manisha Kotecha community@aldenham-pc.gov.uk and we look forward to hearing from you.
