A number of Garston parks have been granted Green Flag awards, with Watford borough having the most awards in Hertfordshire.

The award acknowledges areas with well-managed parks and green spaces to ensure everybody has access to quality green and open spaces, as well as acknowledging the staff, managers and volunteers who help maintain these spaces.

Seventeen of Garston’s green spaces have received Green Flag awards, including Garston Park, Woodside Playing Fields, Lea Farm Recreation Ground, and Meriden Park.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “When I speak to residents, many of them tell me that our fantastic parks and green spaces are one of the things they love most about Watford. That’s why I’m pleased that, once again, we’ve been awarded the highest number of green flags in Hertfordshire and one of the highest in the country.”

Stanborough Ward councillor Tim Williams, portfolio holder for parks, said: “There is strong evidence that parks have a huge impact on people’s health and wellbeing and we are committed to enabling people access to places where they can connect with nature, take exercise and also have fun. I would also like to thank Veolia staff and the ‘Friends of’ groups who do so much to keep our parks in good condition.”
