SAFETY CONCERNS: Resident raises traffic and road safety issue after seeing five near collisions

Published on: 5th March 2020   |   By: Geraint Roberts   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Hatch End resident has raised awareness on the dangers surrounding two roads after contacting a councillor.

Juliette Morrison emailed John Hinkley, who is a member of the Traffic and Road Safety Advisory Panel, after fearing the potential risk of serious accidents and injuries on her road.

The resident, who has lived on Anselm Road for 20 years, is concerned about the junction that follows onto Uxbridge Road.

Juliette has brought attention to the yellow box junction that has faded between these roads, which has caused a blockage for cars when trying to exit or enter the road.

Another key issue she highlights is the increase of vehicles turning into the slip road without any indication or reduction of speed, treating it as if it was a continuation of Uxbridge Road.

She said: “Our family have experienced in excess of five near collisions in the past month alone. We are now very cautious when we approach the junction due to these incidents, but do not feel that enough is being done to prevent incidents like this occurring.

“Ultimately, the main issue is vehicles attempting to access the slip road, and frequently driving without due care and attention for other road users and pedestrians. I am seriously concerned there will be an incident due to this. There have previously has been minor road traffic collision’s in this location.”

Other issues were raised, along with suggested solutions that included a pedestrian island and a raised concrete bollard.

Councillor John Hinkley replied to the email saying: “I agree with you that this particular junction does need looking at and I will bring it to the attention of the traffic department to see what ideas they might have. Please note that this will not necessarily be a quick process but at least, thanks to you we have started the ball rolling.”
