Intu Watford had success recently at the Revo Gold Awards where it picked up the prize in the Re:new category.
The award was won due to the shopping centre’s multi-million-pound regeneration project, which has transformed the centre into an impressive 1.4 million square-foot retail and leisure landscape.
The Re:new category celebrates projects that have set the future agenda for retail destinations, through commercial and mixed-use developments that have taken the industry forward.
Judges were impressed with how intu Watford had helped to shape the wider location and community alongside complementary uses such as residential, civic, cultural and employment space.
In the winners’ booklet, the judges praised intu Watford, saying: “The reception from occupiers has been overwhelmingly positive and shoppers are thrilled to find brands previously unavailable in the town and activities to entertain the whole family.
“The addition of leisure to the centre means that families no longer have to travel out of the town, increasing the centre’s offer, stretching its trading hours and establishing it as a day-to-night destination.”
Vicki Costello, centre director at intu Watford, said: “We are delighted to have won this Revo Gold Award. We set out to create a popular retail and leisure destination where customers smile thanks to the compelling experiences they have here, and retailers flourish, and we have succeeded.
