Local charity A Slice of Happiness is offering free access to its Innate Health programmes for Garston residents who are unemployed or receiving Universal Credit or Pension Credit.
The evidence-based 24-hour programme is on offer over an eight-week period. The sessions are designed to increase wellbeing and resilience, and find calm amidst life’s challenges.
Caroline Powell, founder of A Slice of Happiness, spoke to GARSTONnews about the project.
She said: “Our vision is that together we create a safe space for everyone to meet inner peace through this revolutionary new ‘health-focused’ approach.”
Caroline left her 28-year career and started the organisation in 2017 under the Watford & Three Rivers Trust. She was inspired to do so because of her own struggles with mental health, including drugs, alcohol, homelessness, and trauma.
She said: “I paid £28,000 to access this support. [Because of that] I wanted to offer it for free for those who can’t afford it.”
The organisation also acknowledges that even those with a regular job often don’t have a disposable income, so they offer the service at £6 per hour. For the 8-week course, this comes to a total of £147.
A Slice of Happiness is based at Holywell Community Centre. For more information, visit the charity’s website at www.asliceofhappiness.org
