Watford’s very own ‘Piano Grandad’ internet sensation who has raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK has announced that he has sadly been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
In the May edition of WatfordNews, we reported how ‘Piano Grandad’ Alan Melinek, 85, had set up a TikTok account with the help of his Granddaughter last year, to help raise money in memory of his late wife, through his piano videos and became a viral hit accumulating millions of views.
Alan has since revealed on social media: “I am posting today with some very difficult news. As you know, I have been raising money for cancer research in honour of my wife. This week I was also diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
“This is now closer to my heart than ever before. I am so grateful for everyone’s love and support. The most important thing to me has always been to beat this disease. Please use the link to donate, even £1. We can and will beat this disease together.”
On June 8, Alan underwent a six-hour operation and expressed his wish to reach his £10,000 fundraising target by the time he woke up. Supporters from all over the world came together and helped him smash his target for Cancer Research UK.
