Mary Fisher has stepped down from The Monday Club after 38 years of volunteering with the Abbots Langley social group.
A special gathering was held on September 14, bringing together friends, family, members and volunteers to celebrate her decades of service and share memories.
Mary helped establish The Monday Club alongside her husband and a small group of others as a social club for adults with special needs.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Over the years, Mary has been a friend, a champion and a familiar face to so many people – not only our members, but their families and the wider community too.
“Her warmth, kindness and enthusiasm have made a lasting difference to countless lives.”
Her 38 years of service included thousands of Monday evenings, meetings, events and celebrations, as well as countless conversations and friendships.
The club said her legacy would continue to be felt by everyone connected with the group, adding that it was enormously grateful for everything she had given and the memories she helped create.
The club meets at Abbots Langley Community Centre on Monday evenings during term time, from 7pm to 8.30pm, providing a regular social meeting place for people aged over 16 with learning difficulties.
Sessions cost £1.50, with the first session free for new members.
