A local artist was over the moon to see his work honoured across the globe as he was named Palermo Biennale International Artist of the Year.
Antonio Russo, owner of Oscar’s Pizza in Kings Langley, who is known for his Stony artwork and abstract style pieces was invited to attend the award ceremony last summer.
It was a very proud moment for the local artist who was nominated amongst artists from all over the globe with his work selected by a panel of international curators.
Now set to star in his own documentary, Antonio spoke to KingsNews about receiving the impressive title and his plans for the rest of the year.
He said: “At these bigger awards they invite you in and they have panel made up of international art curators from all over the world like Italy, France, Germany, America and so on.
“I’m really chuffed, you don’t know until the day who has won and every artist had their own room with their art displayed so we could appreciate each other’s work.
“When my name was read out, I was really so surprised.”
Antonio also said he is set to star in his own Sky documentary which details his life as an artist, his work and his journey since receiving his cancer diagnosis in February 2019.
He said: “The documentary will be a true-life story about me. I’ve got a lot of followers and so many people who want to see it.
“We put a little teaser on Instagram and so many people said they were excited to see it.”
This is not the only project Antonio is working on as he is set to take on an ambitious project to raise money for the Brain Tumour charity.
He said: “I want to rent out a room in a hotel and fill it was canvasses and create the biggest painting.
“Then once I’ve painted all the canvasses I can auction them off and raise a lot more money for charity.”
