Tabard Rugby Club, based in Radlett, has applied to build the village’s first padel courts.
Submitted on Wednesday, May 28, the plans propose the construction of four padel courts with an associated clubhouse and outdoor seating area. It is hoped the padel courts will “add to this established sporting facility with what is recognised as the UK’s fastest growing sport”.
Padel is a racket sport like tennis, but involves a smaller, enclosed court, with walls that players can hit balls off.
The courts would be situated along the south-eastern boundary of the wider Tabard Rugby Club, adjacent to the existing clubhouse and terrace.
The planning documents state: “The padel courts site will have minimal impact on the existing site and will positively add to what is already a sporting centre. The development will have a minor visual impact and a minor/negligible character impact (i.e. not a material change) and the proposals are therefore acceptable from a landscape and visual perspective.”
