As a tough year draws to a close, we have been provided with a glimmer of hope as the COVID-19 vaccine has started to be rolled out across the country.

The vaccine will first be distributed to priority groups including people above the age of 80 and care home staff and residents.

One group that were delighted to receive the vaccine recently was staff at Barchester’s Chalfont Lodge nursing home, in Chalfont St Peter.

The staff were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at Chalfont & Gerrards Cross Hospital, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General manager, Raj Boodhoo said the vaccine will allow them to continue their work in protecting the most vulnerable.

He said: “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel. Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Sue Henry, staff member at Chalfont Lodge nursing home said she is looking forward to welcoming visitors back to the home.

She said: “I am so pleased to be given the vaccine. It will help to keep our residents safe, and is the first step in getting things back to normal and having a buzz of visitors in the home once again.”
