Research suggests that St Albans residents are the second most allergic to mould of all the cities in the UK, with a whopping one in three allergic to the fungus.
The survey conducted by Allevia on 1,000 British people with allergies found that five per cent of St Albans residents reported that mould allergies impact their daily lives.
The only city in the UK that was found to have more people in the area allergic to mould was Sunderland, where 43 per cent of the people surveyed revealed they had mould allergies.
Ninety-two per cent of St Albans residents surveyed also reported experiencing common allergy symptoms such as sore throats and runny noses caused by mould exposure.
In slightly better news for the area, the study showed that to prevent mould allergy flare-ups, 83 per cent of St Albans residents maintain an extremely clean home.
Excess moisture and poor ventilation can lead to the growth of black mould, creating significant challenges for residents in St Albans as they struggle to manage mould allergies.
Directgov reported that in England there are currently two million people living in homes with significant damp or mould issues, despite one in five nationally suffering with mould allergies according to the survey.
