A singer who attended St Clement Danes School in Chorleywood was lucky enough to perform for one of the UK’s most iconic rockers.
Thomas Isherwood’s singing career began towards the end of his time at school, where he says he “caught the bug”.
After performing in local productions and with the National Youth Music Theatre, he successfully auditioned to study classical singing at the Royal Northern College of Music.
He then studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal College of Music, whilst performing as a freelance soloist and with summer opera festivals both in the UK and abroad.
Thomas now performs in concerts across the country, including with the Chorleywood Choral Society, often joining his mother who also sings with the group.
Last month, the baritone singer was delighted to perform excerpts from Puccini’s La Bohème for iconic British actress Thelma Ruby’s 100th birthday party in London.
Just before going onstage, he was alerted that Sir Brian May CBE, best known for being part of the legendary band Queen, was in the audience.
Thomas told CHORLEYWOODnews: “As a massive Queen fan, I had to keep a handle on my nerves because the excitement of him being there could have quite easily become a distraction!
“We got to meet him after and he was absolutely lovely, complementing our performance and saying, ‘Freddie would have loved that’, which is quite possibly the nicest thing he could have said.
“A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience!”
Thomas and the Chorleywood Choral Society will be performing their rendition of Gioachino Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at St Mary’s Amersham on Saturday, May 10. To find out more, please visit www.shorturl.at/dQBQd
