A resident has spoken out about fly tipping on Whitchurch Lane in Stanmore, which has been described as a “long-standing eyesore”.
In a post on the Inside Mill Hill and Edgware Facebook group, resident Jonathan Wine said the rubbish had been there for many weeks and continues to grow in size. He joked that it must have a preservation order to have been left there for so long.
He added: “This is what residents have to put up with in our neck of the woods.”
Jonathan was also critical of Harrow Council, who he claimed has cleaned around the area but has not yet cleared up the fly tipping.
He said on Facebook: “I am already in contact with a number of local councillors as well as our MP. I’m sure I get on all their nerves but unless I continually contact them to complain, nothing ever gets done.”
A spokesperson for Harrow Council said: “Like our residents, we want a clean and safe borough. There are no excuses for fly tipping in Harrow and we take our responsibility to maintain public spaces seriously.
“We cannot tackle this issue alone. Everyone has a responsibility to keep Harrow clean – that includes private landowners.”
The council has invested £270,000 into street cleansing this year and recently increased fly tipping fines to £1,000.
