RICKY ROUNDEL: Sea Cadet spent ‘hours and hours’ on winning design

Published on: 17th August 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A member of the Rickmansworth & Watford Sea Cadets ( located in Croxley) has been crowned the winner of the 2024 Junior Sea Cadets Roundel Competition, launched in 2018 to commemorate the former Lord Mayors of London.

After receiving his first laptop as a present from his parents, 11-year-old Louie reportedly spent hours researching the life of the 695th Lord Mayor, Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli. He then used his research to design a stained-glass artwork inspired by the Lord Mayor’s life.

Commanding Officer Marlene Rhodes said: “Louie spent hours and hours on his design, according to his parents. He’s really proud to be the winner of the competition.”

Louie’s design has since been translated into a beautiful stained-glass roundel by a professional artist.

In July 2025, the budding artist will present his roundel to Michael Mainelli at a special event in London.
