‘MUCH WELCOMED’: HS2 fund pays for new pedestrian crossing near infant school

A new pedestrian crossing has been installed near an Amersham school.

Hyde Heath Infant School has long petitioned for a safe crossing over the busy A422 for the 60-plus children who attend the school.

On behalf of the Hyde Heath Village Society, committee member Andrew Cordiner submitted an application to the HS2 Road Safety Fund to pay for the puffin crossing.

This has now been brought to life, with the £153,000 installation works carried out by Buckinghamshire Highways.

Councillor Peter Martin, Buckinghamshire Council’s deputy cabinet member for transport (HS2/EWR), said: “The village of Hyde Heath is in an area surrounded by heavy HS2 activity, which has had a significant impact on residents, and we know that the new puffin crossing will be much welcomed by everyone in the local community.”

Julia Tyler, headteacher at Hyde Heath, said: “The safety of our community is of paramount importance to us and having the new crossing has increased the confidence in our community as they can come to and from school safely each day.”
