Amersham Museum is delighted after receiving funding of £10,834 for its new heritage project, Amersham’s Retro Shop.
The museum received £9,100 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and a grant of £1,734 from Amersham Community Board.
The project will research and share how local people grew, shopped and recycled sustainably in the past.
Through oral history interviews, reminiscence sessions and our collections, the Retro Shop project will explore how local people shopped and consumed before plastic packaging and pre-packaged food was commonplace.
Working in partnership with local community group Sustainable Amersham, the museum will draw comparisons between historic habits of growing locally, minimising waste, plastic-free packaging and mending with contemporary initiatives today.
Museum curator, Emily Toettcher, commented: “We are thrilled to receive this support thanks to National Lottery players and our community board and are confident the project will inspire local residents to see how people in the past lived more sustainable lives that we can learn from today.”
