‘RESTORATION PROJECT’: Work to upgrade entrance to Abbots Langley park nears completion

Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) has confirmed that work to restore the entrance at Leavesden Country Park (LCP) is nearing completion.

The original brick walls to the road have been repaired, and the cast iron railings have been replicated using the same manufacturing techniques used in the Victorian period. The walls were originally built in 1867 as part of Leavesden Asylum and Hospital.

The restoration of the front of the perimeter wall and fencing is part of wider works at the park, which has been funded by money given to TRDC to maintain the park.

Other restoration works include widening the road at the entrance and installing a new gate, traffic island, railings and higher kerb stones to improve security and prevent anti-social behaviour.

Leavesden councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of TRDC, said: “This project is very close to my heart. LCP is one of the most beloved parks in this district, and the county. The site also has a long and fascinating past, and it is important that it is honoured. This restoration project does just that.

“I am delighted to see such care and attention to detail going into this project – it means that the heritage of LCP is being protected and enhanced not just for today, but for future generations.”
