More than 100 people attended a recent memorial service at Aldenham School for Stanmore resident Fazal Virani, who died in an accident in February.
Stanmore Jafferys (SJ), which Fazal was an integral member of, honoured him with prayers and a short lecture by Sheikh Arif Chandoo, in which he touched upon Fazal’s life, including his sacrifice and dedication not only for the sport of volleyball, but also his commitment to the wider community via his charity work.
The lecture was followed by tributes from several community members who knew Fazal well, including his relative, Murtaza Virani, who shared some of the youthful memories of Fazal and how he shaped the life of his family.
The Virani family then shared “a beautiful and emotional” video with the community, before SJ chair, Shaneabbas Merali, unveiled both the renaming of the VB Academy, which will now be called The Fazal Virani Volleyball Academy, as well as the Al Wilayah tournament which will now be held in his memory.
SJ members then played two hours of volleyball in tribute to the legendary community member.
