A Radlett resident is taking on a 25km charity walk to thank the hospital that treated him.
On Saturday, September 13, Robert Bassey will complete the London Bridges Walk, starting at Putney Bridge and finishing at Southwark Park. He is aiming to raise funds for The Royal Free Charity, which provides support for staff and patients across The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
Speaking to Radlett News, Robert said: “I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October 2023. After having the prostate removed in January 2024, I was then told that the cancer had returned in January 2025. I went to The Royal Free in Hampstead to undergo radiotherapy. With this in mind, I have decided to do something to help them.”
This isn’t the full extent of Robert’s fundraising efforts, as he is also hosting a charity event at Phillimore Community Centre from 12pm to 4pm on Tuesday, August 19 – his 70th birthday. Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be available, as well as a buffet. There will also be a raffle with exciting prizes.
On the same day, Robert will be leading a 1st Steps walk at 2pm, which will be around 30 minutes at a slow pace. Any donations will be gratefully received.
Robert, a volunteer with Hertfordshire Health Walks, will lead a second, five-mile walk at 6.15pm on Tuesday, August 26, from The Round Bush pub.
