Chorleywood Common info day flyer 2Chorleywood Parish Council is holding its first Chorleywood Common Information Day to give residents and visitors the opportunity to find out about its plans for the Common in 2014. Chorleywood Common is a Local Nature Reserve and Herts County Heritage site but also has the prestigious High Level Stewardship (HLS) award from Natural England. The three main grasslands (Acid/Heathland, Chalk and Neutral) are home to numerous species of plants and insects which are rare in Hertfordshire. Since being awarded HLS, rangers have been able to employ different techniques to encourage greater biodiversity and sustain these habitats for the future. The Parish Council are keen to share this heritage with as many residents and visitors as we can. In 2014, the council will apply for funding to improve interpretation and welcome boards in the permitted parking areas as well as offering opportunities for all ages to learn about the biodiversity of the common through a nature trail. Using QR technology, visitors will be able to download facts sheets and a trail with clues, the answers of which can be found along the route. Some of the features of the Common will be used to encourage natural play, taking inspiration from places such as the Ashridge Estate. In the summer of 2014, grazing will also return to the Common. Visitors and residents are invited to the Chorleywood War Memorial Hall on February 9 from 11am to 4pm to have a chat and a cuppa and cake with rangers, hear more about the Chorleywood Common Project and the new Nature Trail. They will also be able to welcome back the cattle, enjoy some beastly bug activities with Bug Storeys and find out some more about the species and habitats on the Common as well as bit more on the history.
