REQUIRES IMPROVEMENT: Garston primary school receives new Ofsted rating

A school in Garston which has had the lowest overall Ofsted rating for years has seen improvements after the latest inspection.

In March 2019, Stanborough Primary School was graded as Inadequate. Ofsted’s most recent report, published on September 21, judged the school overall to be within the category of Requires Improvement with areas of Good.

Some of Ofsted’s criticisms included that the “quality with which parts of the curriculum are designed and delivered is uneven in one or two classes”, and that “some teachers are not trained well enough to spot the signs that indicate a pupil may have SEND (Special Education Needs and Disability).”

Headteacher Mrs Madden, who joined the school in September 2019, stated that she was pleased with the progress the school has made.

She said: “Since being in post, my goal was to ensure that we would meet all of the independent standards and that we would be able to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for our pupils.

“Our journey is only just beginning; this academic year, we have strengthened our leadership team by appointing a new deputy headteacher and an assistant headteacher, both with a wealth of experience and knowledge. In addition, we now have a non-class-based inclusion leader, and we are very excited to implement further changes that will raise standards and improve outcomes for our pupils.”

Stanborough Primary School were recently awarded the Premium Science Quality Mark which celebrates their commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning.

Mrs Madden said: “We look forward to continuing to develop our science curriculum in School to create more budding scientists for the future!
“Our pupils embody our school values and vision, and we are immensely proud of them.”

“Our incredibly supportive school community fuels and drives our committed, dedicated staff and the governing body to ensure that Stanborough Primary School becomes a beacon of light within our community.”
