The Jamaican High Commissioner visited Watford to celebrate Jamaica’s contribution to the area.
Watford Borough Council chairwoman councillor Dawn Allen-Williamson welcomed His Excellency Alexander Williams on Monday, March 31.
During the visit, the High Commissioner met with representatives and organisations with links to Jamaica to celebrate their contributions to the community, and to reaffirm the commitment to strengthening these cultural and social ties.
The High Commissioner said: “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to visit Watford and engage with [cllr Allen-Williamson]. It is particularly significant and inspiring that she is not only Jamaican-born but also the first Black woman to hold this position – a testament to her groundbreaking leadership and remarkable contributions.”
Representatives who met the High Commissioner included ex-footballer and diversity advocate Luther Blissett OBE, along with Clive Saunders, who has supported the African and Caribbean community in the area through education, cultural events, and advocacy.
