This month, a Radlett resident has asked RADLETTnews to highlight an anti-domestic abuse law.
Clare’s Law, also known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, is an initiative which enables the police to release information about any previous history of violence or abuse a person might have.
Under the law, members of the public can request information from the police about a current or ex-partner or the police can disclose information about an individual’s past to the public of their own accord.
Friends and relatives can also request information if they are worried someone might be at risk.
The law is named after Clare Wood, a 36-year-old mother who was murdered by her former partner in 2009. The police knew her murderer had a violent criminal history, but Clare was not aware.
After her death, Clare’s father campaigned for legal means to highlight the violent pasts of people in relationships. Find out more at www.t.ly/haO79
