RED PLAQUE: Search continues for Stanmore firefighter’s family ahead of ceremony

Published on: 11th December 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) is appealing for help in finding the family of a long-deceased Stanmore firefighter ahead of the unveiling of a plaque dedicated to him.

Since 2017, the FBU has been installing red plaque memorials at sites where firefighters have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Brian Flanagan, a firefighter at the station in Euston, is currently preparing for the installation of a new plaque in March 2024 dedicated to Daniel O’Donovan, who tragically fell to his death in 1964 while rescuing a man from a broken lift.

At the time of his passing, Daniel lived in Stanmore, having been born there in 1938. He was married to Ellen Collins in 1961, and they had two children: Lorraine, born in 1962, and Mark, born in 1964.

Brian is now appealing to local residents who may know of the whereabouts of Daniel’s family, in a bid to let them know about the installation.

If you have any information, please email reporter@mynewsmag.co.uk and we’ll pass it on to the FBU.
