RED-HANDED: Northwood supermarket shoplifters arrested and convicted

Published on: 11th April 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Northwood’s policing team and members of the community have come together to tackle a spate of shoplifting at a local supermarket.

In recent times, shoplifters have regularly targeted Waitrose on Green Lane, but action has now been taken to reduce the number of incidents.

Following work from a variety of policing teams, Danny Harris, 27, of Castleton Road, Ruislip, was arrested in Perivale on Friday, March 22, having been caught shoplifting.

The following day, Harris pleaded guilty to 14 counts of theft and one count of business burglary, taking place between February 2023 and February 2024. Aside from the Waitrose, Harris also stole items from Tesco, Marks & Spencer and BP.

He was sentenced to 17 months’ imprisonment for the charges and for having breached an existing suspended sentence. He will also have to pay £5,000 in compensation.

Then, on Monday, March 25, Northwood’s Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) apprehended and arrested two prolific shoplifters at Northwood station. They were also charged with stealing from Waitrose on Green Lane.

Posting on social media, Northwood SNT said: “If you are going to come to our ward to shoplift, then look over your shoulder as we’ll be waiting for you.”

David Simmonds CBE, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, added: “Good to hear from Waitrose Northwood that after a spate of thefts, a man has been jailed for 17 months and a gang apprehended.

“Good teamwork by the store staff and thanks to local Met Police teams.”
