RECORD BREAKING: Radlett Girlguides join worldwide virtual camp

Published on: 12th May 2020   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

More than 100 Radlett Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and their leaders joined the world record attempt for the biggest Virtual Camp ever.

Sixty-eight countries took part in #CampAtHome on April 30, which attracted 95,342 people from all around the globe to set a record for the largest camp ever.

Girlguiding members plus members from the Scout Association and other youth groups were asked to pack a bag, build a den at home / pitch a tent in the garden and hang up a hammock, sleep in your shelter of choice, build a ‘campfire’ (real or virtual), take part in a Guiding activity and help with cooking a meal.

Brownie Keya and Rainbow Alessia from the 4th Radlett Rainbow and Brownie Unit had such a great time that they decided to sleep in their dens for a whole month, whilst Brownie sisters Maria and Zoe persuaded their mum, dad and younger sister to join them for a second camp out over the weekend.

Most leaders in the district are still engaging their girls in Girlguiding activities by hosting weekly virtual meetings where the girls are able to engage with each other and enjoy games, crafts and learn essential skills for life, as well as think about their community and keep their promises.

Recently girls from Radlett have earned badges relating to first aid, storytelling, science investigation, dancing, nature, aviation, baking and jobs.
