A Northwood community group and two Ruislip residents have been recognised for their remarkable contributions to the local area.

At the 2024 Hillingdon Community Awards, held at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge on Tuesday, April 23,

18 individuals and groups won prizes out of a shortlist of 137 nominees.

In the category of Helping Communities, Kath Powell was given a gold award for her three decades of tireless work in helping the staff and students at Whiteheath Junior School in Ruislip.

Originally joining the school as a volunteer, she has since worked as a dinner lady and a teaching assistant, and is now back to being a volunteer.

One of the bronze winners in the Helping Communities category was the Friends of Northwood Recreation Ground, a group who regularly appear in NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews for their efforts in making sure the local green space is clean and welcoming for both residents and visitors. Group founder Ben Rawson-Jones attended the ceremony to accept the award.

Ruislip resident Asad Karim also won a bronze award in the Helping Communities category for his work with the area’s safer neighbourhood policing team in preventing crime.

Councillor Ian Edwards, Leader of Hillingdon Council, said: “The Hillingdon Community Awards never fail to surprise and astonish us with the sheer dedication and selflessness shown by the wide range of brilliant nominees and winners.”
