St Albans City FC are preparing to play their biggest game of pre-season as they face off against an Arsenal XI on Monday, August 1.
The Saints will be looking forward to hosting the Gunners after uncertainty over whether the game would be played at all.
The highly anticipated pre-season fixture was forced to be called off on July 11 due to Arsenal’s inability to field a sufficient squad. With the first team due to kick off their Premier League campaign on Friday, August 5, and many youth squad members already out on loan, Arsenal announced they didn’t have the requisite number of players nor the availability to rearrange the match.
It seemed impossible that a resolution could be reached until yesterday (July 17), when the game was suddenly announced to be back on after ongoing discussions between the two clubs.
A spokesperson for St Albans City said: “We’d like to thank Arsenal for allowing us to go ahead with the game, but also would like to send our apologies to anyone that has suffered any inconvenience due to the uncertain nature of the fixture, and thank you all for your continued support this summer.”
Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting the official St Albans City FC website.
