RAT REPARATIONS: Man loses bizarre £2million court case against Ruislip storage company

Published on: 4th December 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A man who argued that a rodent infestation led to him developing a heart condition, has lost his £2million claim against a Ruislip-based self-storage company.

In 2018, Dr Michael Spencer entered into a licence for two storage units with Safestore in Ruislip.

However, the units became infested with rodents, which caused major damage to the stored property. This resulted in a successful insurance claim against the business.

Some months after this, Dr Spencer was diagnosed with a serious cardiac condition, compromising his life expectancy.

He subsequently brought a new claim of £2million in loss of earnings, care and other expenses against Safestore, alleging that his illness was triggered by an infection which he had contracted from the rodent infestation.

However, at the end of a week-long trial in November, His Honour Judge Mark Raeside KC dismissed the claim.

The judge came to the conclusion that the infection was unlikely to have been caused by the rodents and that Dr Spencer’s cardiac condition had a genetic cause.
