WORDS OF LOVE: Tring author releases new book showing ‘love knows no barriers’

An author from Tring has released the final novel in a trilogy about the supernatural romance between a ghost and a human.

Brenda Hurley, who is also a landscape artist, published her first book, Ghostly Embrace, in 2019 after being inspired by historic artwork.

Brenda spoke to TRINGnews and said: “This all started when I visited the National Trust house of Kingston Lacy and saw some wonderfully carved shutters at the long windows, a carved panel of wildlife and a carved bed. I stood looking at the remarkable work and wondered who had had such a wonderful talent.

“I thought of a man now long dead, leaving this treasure behind him, and wondered what life he might have had. I liked the thought that the barrier between the mortal and spiritual worlds is thin enough in parts for both worlds to connect, and love knows no such barriers.”

The book follows the story of Louis, a ghost from the 18th century who had been killed on the bed he had handcrafted, leading to a journey between spiritual worlds, and romance along the way.

After the success of Ghostly Embrace, Brenda released its sequel, Ghostly Return, in 2021. Ghostly Light is the final story in the series and was published towards the end of last year.

Brenda said: “I’m a very spiritual person and have always been fascinated by the idea of morality; the good and bad, the light and dark.

“I wanted to write the third book and round off the story neatly. I’ve so enjoyed this journey, but this is the final story for Louis. Will he find his happy ending?”
