RAISE THE ROOF: Gala to raise funds for Watford Pump House’s £750,000 repairs

Published on: 20th February 2024   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Tickets to a gala fundraising night to ‘Raise the Roof’ for the Watford Pump House are on sale now.

The Watford Pump House, a popular community arts venue, urgently needs to raise £750,000 to replace its roof, otherwise its future could be in doubt.

As part of its Raise the Roof fundraising campaign, a gala night including a two-course dinner, licensed bar, casino, auction, live entertainment and music is being staged on Saturday, April 6.

VIP tickets for £75 include the meal while special guest tickets are available for £35 that let you enjoy everything else. Black tie is optional for both. Tickets are limited so people are encouraged to book now to avoid disappointment.

Sharon Gaffney, from the Pump House, said: “We wanted to put on a special night that celebrates everything that people love about the Pump House while raising much-needed funds to replace the roof.”

The Pump House has been the vibrant hub for community arts activities in Watford for more than 50 years. It used to be the old pumping station supplying water to the Watford area. In the early 1970s, the Victorian building was converted to provide a theatre auditorium and rehearsal room and has been entertaining audiences ever since.

It has become known for nurturing and promoting the best local talent and is the driving force behind the annual Watford Fringe Festival. It is also home to diverse groups supporting children, those living with mental health problems, learning disabilities or dementia.

But all this could be in jeopardy if the venue isn’t able to raise £750,00 to replace its roof and make other much-needed improvements including:
• Additional seats in a new balcony area
• Significantly bigger dressing rooms that will support larger productions and remove the current need for large cast performers to walk outside to additional dressing room space during performances
• New, multi-purpose art and rehearsal studio space with natural light sources
• Provision of disabled access and facilities to performers as current backstage area is not disabled access friendly
• Additional performer support facilities for the Colne River Room space.
