An incredible £56,000 has been raised as part of the annual Moor Park 10k and Fun Runs event for Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood.
Taking place on Sunday, September 24, more than 1,000 individual runners and 65 schools came to the Merchant Taylors’ School to race together and raise funds for the centre, with many having their own personal reasons for joining in.
This included Rachel’s Warriors, a family who got involved to say thank you to Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre. The centre, which operates within Mount Vernon, cared for and supported 33-year-old Rachel, who was diagnosed with secondary triple negative breast cancer and sadly passed away in May.
Alaster, Rachel’s husband, said: “Rachel and I got married in August last year and settled into our home in Apsley. On New Year’s Eve, Rachel found a lump and was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer a few weeks later.
“Rachel died in May and leaves behind devastated family and friends. We were all so proud to have her in our lives and we wanted to raise funds to thank all the staff who supported her during her treatment.”
