The regional director of a Chalfont St Peter care home has recently cycled in a gruelling 100-mile race to raise money for the company’s charitable foundation.
Wayne Hughes, who is responsible for Chalfont Lodge and other homes at parent company Barchester Healthcare, took part in the Ride 100 cycle race across London and Essex to fundraise for older people living mental or physical disabilities.
The race took him from London Embankment and all around the capital and Essex county, before finally circling back to the finish line at Tower Bridge.
Staff and residents at Chalfont Lodge have all been joining together to raise money in support of Wayne’s race, with them organising stalls of homemade cakes to sell.
Before the race, Wayne said: “It is going to be a long old day in the saddle but I’m really excited to take part and I’m hoping to raise lots of money for the foundation.
“I know all the staff, residents, relatives and visitors are behind me and that they’ll be cheering me on come May 28 – it is their support that will keep me going and get me across the finish line.”
